Conditions That May Benefit From The Pain Intervention

Conditions That May Benefit from Hypnosis for Pain Management

Chronic pain is complex. In many cases, pain can continue even after tissues have healed, or the nervous system can become increasingly sensitive to pain signals. Hypnosis may help change how the brain and nervous system process and respond to pain, while supporting relaxation, comfort, confidence, and a greater sense of control.

The Walton Hypnotherapy One-Session Pain Intervention is designed primarily for people experiencing persistent pain conditions where nervous-system sensitivity, stress, tension, attention, and learned pain responses may contribute to the overall pain experience.

1. Chronic Primary Pain

Persistent pain lasting three months or longer that significantly affects daily life and has become a primary health concern. Hypnosis may help address pain perception, nervous-system sensitivity, stress, and the emotional response to persistent pain.

2. Chronic Widespread Pain

Long-term pain affecting multiple areas of the body. Increased nervous-system sensitivity, muscle tension, fatigue, poor sleep, and heightened sensitivity to sensations may contribute to the overall experience.

3. Fibromyalgia

A chronic condition involving widespread pain and increased pain sensitivity, often accompanied by fatigue, sleep difficulties, and cognitive symptoms. Hypnosis may be used as a complementary approach for relaxation, pain management, and changing the experience of discomfort.

4. Nociplastic Pain

Pain associated with altered pain processing in the nervous system, where ongoing tissue damage may not fully explain the intensity or persistence of the pain. This makes the brain's and nervous system's response to pain an important potential target for mind-body approaches.

5. Tension-Type Headaches

Headaches commonly experienced as pressure, tightness, or aching around the head, scalp, face, or neck. Hypnosis may help address relaxation, muscle tension, stress, and the way discomfort is experienced.

6. Migraine

Migraine is a neurological disorder that can involve severe headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light, sound, or other stimuli. Hypnosis may be explored as a complementary strategy for managing pain, stress, relaxation, and responses to migraine symptoms alongside appropriate medical care.

7. Chronic Low-Back Pain

Persistent or recurring lower-back pain can involve a combination of physical factors, nervous-system sensitivity, muscle tension, stress, fear of movement, and learned protective responses. Hypnosis may help address some of these factors and support greater comfort and perceived control.

8. Chronic Neck Pain

Long-term neck discomfort may involve previous injury, posture, muscle tension, stress, protective movement patterns, and increased sensitivity within the nervous system. Hypnosis can provide another tool for relaxation and pain management.

9. Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD/TMJ Pain)

Persistent jaw pain or discomfort can be influenced by jaw clenching, muscle tension, stress, sleep difficulties, and heightened pain sensitivity. Hypnosis may help promote relaxation and reduce some of the tension and stress associated with persistent jaw discomfort.

Is the One-Session Pain Intervention Right for You?

The goal isn't to convince you that your pain is “all in your head.” Your pain is real.

Instead, this approach recognizes that pain is an experience produced by a complex interaction between the body, brain, nervous system, emotions, attention, expectations, and environment.

Hypnosis gives us an opportunity to work with some of those processes.

The Walton Hypnotherapy One-Session Pain Intervention is designed to help you explore whether you can change your relationship with pain, reduce discomfort or distress, increase your sense of control, and learn techniques you can continue using after the session.

Important: Hypnosis for pain management is a complementary approach and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. New, unexplained, rapidly worsening, or medically unevaluated pain should be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional before using hypnosis specifically to reduce pain perception.
